  1. These drawings are so beautiful Johanna! Is that my Nikita and Bella in the first two drawings? They are famous, if you draw them! I love all of your work and I wish I could draw like you, because I would be drawing all the time!

    • Thanks Anne…I know, my boys bundle up up most seriously when heading out! it is pretty cold here too and often look at Charley and say: ” really, a walk???” So…three layers of clothing for me and a pretty coat for Charley…

  2. I love the drawing of Cathe and Stella! I really do not know how you manage to capture such affection and such a bond between the two, just with line. You are a very accomplished artist, for you make it look deceptively simple and yet I know, from experience that you can only capture things with a few strokes after years and years of looking very closely and practicing very hard.
It is a joyous thing to be able to share in your progress.
    Karen.

  3. Wonderful work dear Johanna ! All the drawings with colour or without are great ! The two first with the lovely company are so cute and of course the ones with you and Charley are absolutely sweet and beautiful!I can’t believe this is the first time you drew her!
I enjoyed the elephant ones too and the quize. If I hadn’t seen the answer in one of the previous comments,I would give it a try .. Have a wonderful weekend and Valentine’s Day ,Doda 🙂 ❤ ♥

  4. Johanna, this is a wonderful post. I love everything about it especially seeing your talent and creativity! You are incredibly talented. Thank you for sharing all this with us. Ah, yes, I did spot the difference, very fun!

    • I was quite shy and nervous when I first started this blog and put my art ‘out there’. But it is the best way for me to keep on doing what I do, with receiving such lovely, lovely comments from great artist like yourself!

  5. I love being able to watch your drawing develop. They’re gorgeous. I’m sure Charley was very pleased with her first portrait 🙂 and I just love those penguins. The elephant’s diploma/degree has me wondering…x

    • Well, I hope to soon reveal the mystery of the elephant the penguins and the dogs;0) (that sounds like a great whodunnit) I must admit that the penguins are very dear to me…but it is so great and wonderful to get all these wonderful responds!

  6. Wow, Johanna, these are great! Missing diploma, huh? Well, I must not be very observant because I thought you had just darkened the colors in the one without the diploma! HA! Some witness I’d make! 😆 Your drawings are so sweet.

  7. Bonjour, mon ami ! I spotted the difference immediately, has someone graduated? Doggie ears are so hard to resist. It’s always such a treat to stroke a soft ear or bury my nose in one during a snuggle-fest. So naturally I love the one with all the dogs facing away. The drawing of Charley brought back a flood of memories of our Buddy. He would come up from behind and stick his nose thru your arm to do the same thing. Did you have particular pups in mind when you penned the first piece? I’m off to work today and it’s snowing ‘again’. Hope you and Charley girl have a warm and cuddly day ❤ xK

    • After a delightful visit of the youngest Mr. Walker and a splendid tooothache..I am finally catching up with blogging and noticed a few unanswered comments!! My apologies.
On the first drawing , you see Charley of course and Bella and Nikita from Nikitaland.
I had actually never drawn Charley before ;0)
Do I understand that Buddy is no longer with you? I am so sorry! Will you have another dog? That dog would be so lucky!!
Hope you had a good working day, xoxox Johanna

      • Not a worry at all Johanna. I’m actually finding messages late too. I think I’ve read everything but suddenly have unread messages from days ago. Could be a WP thing.

Thank you for your care Johanna, that’s so kind. You’re right about Buddy, we said good-bye over 4 years ago now. We adopted him when he was 7 or 8 and had him for 7.5 years. We adopted him from rescue group. We were told his first family had to give him up when they divorced and moved into places that didn’t allow pets. How devastating for them. He was Mr Big & Loveable. We really miss him and my eyes still get teary at times. We’ve talked about another dog. Jim doesn’t want to go through saying goodbye again (we have twice). He’s also concerned about our small yard and traveling. He’s right, it’s easier when you just have cats. But, who knows. I really have a longing. Maybe, Jim will come around.

Happy note: I got your gorgeous parcel today! I just opened after dinner. Sending an email xoxoxo

  8. Hi, Johanna! I’m loving what you do with animals–they all have so much personality. In that very first drawing, Charley looks like Charley, not just a dog of that type! I’m glad you were courageous enough to share your development with us–it’s inspiring to follow along!

But thank you Kerry for your kind words as always. I had indeed never drawn Charley before and I was chuffed to bit that she was quickly recognized!

  9. These are absolutely marvelous Johanna-I love them all! You have captured beautifully the love between human and dog and I feel like the dogs in the top image are ready to move about any moment-I look forward to seeing more of your work!
