  1. I think everyone agrees that darker/horses and lighter/cooks shows best. The horse turning into a seahorse is imagination divine! I like the dog with the balloons, too. It is wonderful.

  2. I prefer the darker background for the horses, I even would make it a bit darker(blue). I would give the mother and child in the kitchen a nice wallpaper background.
But in general our choice for bright colours is perfect!

  3. You don’t need us to help with these decisions–trust your own wonderful instincts! My new favorite of all, though, is the dog floating with balloons–that just sings to me!

    • Well…it is very nice to see all the feedback. This commission work..so it has to be my style, my work but also pleasing for the client so to speak. The floating dog is coming along quite nicely. I studied lots of work of Beatrix Potter lately because she lets het animal behave so human but still they stay clearly animals. I so wanted to draw a kissing dog (which dogs cannot do of course) I think it works out quite well ;0) Thank you for your kind and encouraging words, as always xo Johanna

  4. Hello Johanna. It’s so nice to be able to spend some time visiting blogs today, and seeing your latest sketches. Did someone commission the mother / child drawings? They evoke such contentment.

    • Hey Laurie…have you come back to the order of the day after that fabulous holiday with your blog-friends? Thank you for visiting me and leaving kind words. This is all commission work. Except for the last drawing, these are for a children’s book.

  5. I like them all!! One thing that really struck me is the red background and how it changed the whole feeling of the picture.. Reminded me of a Matisse.. Very playful!! Lovely work, have a great weekend!

    • Thank you so much, Pix. I studied lots of work of Beatrix Potter lately because she lets het animal behave so human but still they stay clearly animals. 6. Good heavens, Johanna, you have such wonderful talent. The seahorse metamorphosis is entrancing. And I like the shading in the background. The texture makes it appear watery.
I’d give my left lung to one day look up and see a puppy floating toward me in a pile of balloons. What a day maker that would be.
I’m quite smitten with the mum and daughter cooking–easy enough to guess why after this last week. And also, many thanks for the lovely words you offered on the post today. It appears you are very much in a similar place, and your comment meant a great deal to me. Cheers.

  7. Great work! Personally, I think the first drawing doesn’t need a darker background, the horses and seahorses are beautiful as they are and the colors make them shine…

I love it just as it is. But I’m sure you’ll make it beautiful any way you choose.

And as for the rest… They’re lovely, too.

Your drawings really make me smile, think…

Have a great week and have fun!

  8. Lovely work, Johanna! The ballooning pup is laugh-out-loud fun…would love to see that in a larger scale with multicolored balloons. Future project? 😉 Cheers, Ben

  9. Stunning work and wonderful drawings dear Johanna!
I so much like the darker backdrop for the horses and seahorses and both background designs of the living room scene! As for the kitchen scene,I would love to see a soft background there too,it feels something is missing … Huge congrats to you my friend,on your delightful and creative work! Enjoy your day with Mr.Walker and the princess 🙂 ❤ xxx
