Photo Shoot at Smale Riverfront Park

Bliss at the Walker Residence because the Youngest Mr. Walker was here for a visit, after a summer of very hard working. And double bliss this time, because he brought along a great friend and co-worker. And before the study year starts again, I had a chance to spoil these to two!

Now it is clear that these two could not be more different from the outside: very tall Dutch boy and a ‘somewhat shorter’ Hong Kong girl. But believe me, it was like having twins in the house! No wonder they are such good friends.

Since we all love making photos, we went on a lovely summer night to Smale Riverfront Park here in Cincinnati and enjoyed how so many people love this place. To me, a great lover of city parks, it has everything! Artful waterworks, great sceneries, creative playgrounds.

Love and Liefs, Johanna

  1. Yes, yes! Amazing photos. I love your observation about friendship. When it comes to kindred spirits, size, shape, and color are irrelevant. (As they should be for everything else.)

  2. Isn’t it wonderful to spoil our children, no matter the age. I just sent my daughter a gift for a spa day. I just knew it was needed.
Your photography compositions are beautiful. Thanks for posting the visual treat today.

    • You are welcome Sharon…and yes so true, once they leave the nest, spoiling them becomes fun. Without knowing any details, I can picture a story behind that spa day. you are a lovely mom! xo Johanna

  3. That scenery and the bridge and walkways look really interesting. Great place to walk and laugh with family.

  4. What an interesting looking place – your photos are stunning! So nice to celebrate friendship that crosses gender, race and size 🙂 Wouldn’t it be nice to see more of that in the world!

  5. It may just be your photos but that looks like such a vibrant, exciting part of the city! It’s so nice to share what you like about your town with visitors–it always gets me to see my region with new eyes, when I see it with others. But, but . . . where’s my Charley girl?

    • Cincinnati is for sure not that exciting as Chicago or New York, but I do love living here. Many parts of the town are rejuvenated and with that comes better circumstances for living for so many people. This is a new park and I love seeing it enjoyed by so many people. And do not worry, dear Kerry, our country girl Charley simply does not like city parks;0) She gives you an extra hug. xo Johanna

  6. Such lovely photos. I think the last time I was in Cinci was in 1970. Went to the Shubert Theatre to see the Broadway production of “Aquarius.” Then out to eat at a German restaurant. I still remember the authentic meal I had. Delicious! HA! I suppose Cinci has changed a bit since then. 😉

    • The theaters arestill great and you can still find authentic German food. This is just another part that is rejuvenated and beautified…it makes life better for everyone. xo Johanna

  7. What a beautiful waterfront. Everything I know about Cincinnati is through the tv show “wkrp” in Cincinnati — my how things have changed since then! Glad you had a visit with your son, and friend.

  8. Cincinnati is one of my favorite cities. I’ve never seen it at night, though. Your photographs have shown me what I’ve missed. It is lovely to see it through the eyes of your visitor from Hong Kong. I’m going to forward this to my sister since I’ve been there with her. Thank you for the lovely visit. I love Ohio.

  9. Another beautiful post. I love how tight your family is and how a visit becomes a celebration. I love the photos of the bridges and lights, so beautiful! Thank you for sharing such a lovely time.

  10. Hi Johanna! Yes, it is so true that sometimes people can be very different from each other on the outside, but can connect wonderfully because of their personalities and attitudes. It is one of the joys of human relationships. 🙂 I share your love of parks, and enjoyed reading about the wonderful evening. Beautiful pictures! Thanks for sharing!

  11. Hi Johanna, I get a real kick out of your excitement for when your boys are home. That is so heartwarming and dear to hear you gush. I just took the virtual tour of Smale Riverfront Park. Wow! An awesome asset to the city for sure. I especially like the Cascade water feature and rain curtains.

It’s no doubt of favourite for visitors and locals alike. We have nice riverfront in Edmonton but they haven’t developed it as they could. I wish they’d watch the video at the Smale site for inspiration. Your photo’s are always inspiring. I haven’t had much luck with night photography but probably have the wrong camera too. Do you bother with a tripod? I saw you shared the ‘long exposure’ tip with one of your visitors. For me, hand held seems really hard with a long exposure. I think they were smart to light it all up at night! The bridge is a real Gem.

Love the Carasel in a glass box too. a ride on seemed really well priced at only $2.00. Have you been on it? I always love Carasel music, it’s very nostalgic. Not unlike myself 😀 xo K

And no, a Carasel is not for me. My balance is very poor alas and it would end in inelegant retching ;0) I had to smile by the idea of you entering it: lovely!!!
The excitement however continues, as my oldest is arriving tomorrow, also with a friend. New is that they come up by car…I try not to fret about that…silly me;0(
      xo Johanna

      • Not silly at all. If they drive in Ontario like they do in Alberta, I don’t blame you for fretting a bit. The older I get, the less I like being on the Highway, there’s no zooming involved….”look out, foxy middle aged woman coming through….putt putt putt” I own the slow lane 😀 Enjoy!!! ❤

  12. Your photographs are stunning!! I remember you saying a few moths back something about trying to take a decent cell phone photo. I don’t know if you are taking these with your phone but whatever you are using works great, these photos are extraordinarily beautiful.

  13. I can almost see your broad smiles when The Boys come to stay with.
Spectacular all of the cityscapes and especially the flamboyant night shots!Glad to hear that the youngest Mr. Walker has met such a nice Hong Kong girl!Bet you all had a splendid time together.Thank you for sharing those magnificent photos with us;you made me feel as if I have visited the city! All the best to you ~ Happy Sunday ~ Doda 🙂 xxx
